...everything can change...
Your world can fall apart...
...or be mended back together...
A blink. A reflex your eyes perform involuntarily. It happens so quickly, yet with one blink, disaster can strike. I was asleep on a chilly night, wrapped up in my electric blanket, peacefully resting when I heard commotion from downstairs.
Being a police officer, I have been trained to deal with perpetrators and intruders. However, I didn't think I would have to deal with what I did tonight. My job issued firearm in hand, I cautiously made my way out of my bedroom, making sure to check down the hall first to see if the commotion was indeed all contained to the downstairs.
I was lucky I did because there was someone with his back turned to me, pawing through my linen closet. I don't know what the hell he expected to find in there, but he was throwing the towels and washcloths out of the drawers in a haphazard manner, obviously searching for something extremely important. I snuck up behind him and clamped my arm around his neck until he fell unconscious. I laid his body down on the floor and darted toward the stairs. As I looked down them, I saw more men taking apart my house.
I was curious as to why they were all in military garb and why they were there. I was law enforcement too, weren't we supposed to be on the same side? They were all armed to the teeth, and my measly .38 caliber pistol wasn't going to do shit. I knew I couldn't take them all on and make it out alive. I crouched by the stair railing, watching them while pondering what to do next. Taking a deep breath, I counted on the fact that they wouldn't shoot me unless I fired at them, so I stood up and went halfway down the stairs, stopping on one of the treads.
"What are you doing in my house?!"
"We are required to search all houses and confiscate any weapons and cell phones on the premises. Please hand over your pistol."
"No, it's my right to own a firearm, especially since I'm law enforcement."
"Not anymore. The police department has been dissolved. You have been relieved of duty. We are under martial law now."
That is how my world fell apart in the blink of an eye.
Wow, this is a super good start! I really like it :D
ReplyDeleteI have so many questions already! >_<
*whispers*
...the police officer is super hot..
*runs away*
Well, thank you. =D Hahaha, the police officer is happy you think he's super hot. LOL. As am I, I was hoping I wasn't the only one who thought he was super hot.
DeleteEeee, raising questions, yay, I feel like I'm doing something right.
Thanks so much for checking this out and commenting! XD
I'm so excited and upset at the same time! Excited you've started a new story and upset that I have to wait longer to find out more about the cute police officer and what happens to him! =D Lol! Great start!
ReplyDeleteLMAO. XD Well I'm happy that you are on edge wanting to know what's going to happen to the police officer. Thanks so much for reading. On the plus side, you can now read The Compound and not have to wait for any new chapters. LOL.
DeleteThank you so much for checking this out and commenting! =) I appreciate it.
Whoopsie! Martial Law?! o.O
ReplyDeleteOk, this is going to be interesting... no, wait a moment, your stories always are... ok, this is going to be... ah whatever! Already love it xD
Just one more thing before I forget, do you recall where you found the cc handcuffs you used on Lexington?
Yes. MUAHAHHAHA. Martial law. Just my spin on starting an apocalypse challenge. It would certainly make me feel like the end of the world had just happened if someone said we were under martial law... *bites fingernails*
DeleteI'm glad you liked the first chapter, and thanks for the kind words. =D
For the handcuffs, I DL this pose pack, Mechanics of Emotions: Fear, and it came with it. I DL the one with the pose list. It also came with the gun I used in this chapter. =D
Thanks so much for checking this out and commenting! I appreciate it. =D
1) Thanks for the info, will have to check that pack out ^^
Delete2) Are you kidding me?! YOU provide ME with excellent reads- I shall appreciate! *lol*
LOL. My pleasure, anna. =D *hugs*
DeleteWow! Such an intense first chapter! Those first lines were great :-).
ReplyDeleteThis is getting interesting, can't wait to see why they're under martial law :-O.
Hello again! You know me, have to be intense right off the bat... I think I'm just intense in general, hehe. I'm glad you like the first lines, I'm not much of a poet, so I tried really hard for those four lines LOL.
DeleteWheee, well I'm going to post Chapter 2 today sometime, so you can find out the reason soon. =D
Thanks a bunch for checking this out and commenting! I appreciate it. =D
Holy crap. I was intrigued from the first word to the very last word. I love apocalypse themed movies, so this story is right up my alley. I love all your stories, and I know this one like the rest are going to be awesome. :) This first chapter left me with a lot of questions. I wonder what the hell happened in the world do declare marshal law. Ugh, so freaky, but in a good way. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteLOL. Thanks for your kind words. I'd noticed a high rise in the number of apocalyptic movies and tv shows lately... O_0 I wanted to try out a different challenge, but I needed something gritty, and intense. I don't do fluffy rainbow crap. LOL. I also wanted something that was just as uncomfortable as The Compound was. Eee I'm happy to hear it left you with questions, it lets me know I'm doing something right. This whole story is going to be freaky, so hang on to your seat! I'm going to release Chapter 2 at some point today, so you won't have to wait long to find out what happened. =)
DeleteThanks so much for checking this out and commenting, I really appreciate it. =D
Wow! Great start, I love it already!! I love how you started with "In a blink of an eye" and then went on like that. It was very intriguing!
ReplyDeleteHi! :) Thanks. I decided to try a little experiment with poetry, haha, and then the little poem helped me come up with the title of this story. XD
DeleteI get the government wanting to protect the citizens or whatever, but I really don't trust the military men. I'm very curious about what's going on and love this so far! =) Sorry for not commenting, I've been reading this and Blogger didn't let me the first time and I kinda forgot to comment after that.... *feels ashamed while rambling on*. Great story! =)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I am having a lot of fun writing it. That is very good that your instincts tell you not to trust the military men. ;) LOL, sorry Blogger was being a butthead, haha, I sometimes forget to turn on the correct setting for comments when I start a new blog, so it could have partially been my fault. Sorry about that. Haha. Thank you for coming back and commenting though! :)
DeleteUmm, say what?! First, nice new story. I am intrigued! Second, what a hottie! What's your name, boo? And lastly, electric blanket huh? No heat in the house? lol
ReplyDeleteHey Taina! Welcome! Thanks, I appreciate it! :) Hottie's name will be revealed in later chapters, I wanted to keep the mystery going as I am trying something new with the way I write this. :D He has an electric blanket because he turns the heat down at night to save money on his heating bill. The electric blanket costs less to run than keeping the house at a warm temperature at night. LOL.
DeleteThanks for reading and commenting! I hope you continue to enjoy!
I must say as others have said before me, a great start! Intense and interesting and - wow - hottie alarm! :-D Really intrigued!
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks swiirl! :) Haha, nothing but the hottest Sims for me as main characters, LOL. <3 Glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteHUH WHAT! OMG I must know more!
ReplyDeleteHey! Welcome to my story. :) Thanks for commenting, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
DeleteWhat a great start of a story!! Makes one scared... but it's so true, life can chande in a blink of an eye!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why they closed the police department and are confiscating his weapon/mobiles...
Hi! :D Heehee, nice to see you again. :) Yeah, o.O people really shouldn't take things for granted. Ahh yes, you'll find out the answers to your questions in Chapter 2. :D
DeleteThanks for commenting, and welcome to the story! :D
Just found your story (though I'm not sure why I didn't find it sooner)! So excited about it and to find out WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED! I absolutely love thrillers, so you already have me ready for the next chapter! :)
ReplyDeleteHi lovesstorms. Welcome to my story! :)
DeleteLOL, yay, I'm excited I peaked your interest.
Thanks so much for reading and commenting! :)
Well, crap! I'd be terrified.
ReplyDeleteHey mypalsim! Welcome to Blink of an Eye.
DeleteThis is definitely a scary situation.
Thanks for commenting. :D
What a strong start! I was immediately engaged. I have always like reading and watching movies about Martial Law and what society would be like if that were to happen in our time. Can't wait to read more.
ReplyDeleteHi Reagan! :) Welcome to Blink of an Eye. Thank you for the compliments. It's been exciting for me to write this because I've had to think about all these crazy things that might happen.
DeleteThanks for checking this out and commenting. :)
Wanted to ask, have you ever seen The Siege?
ReplyDeleteHi again! To answer your question, no I have not seen The Siege.
DeleteHeya, what an exciting beginning. Nobody likes martial law! Can't wait to see where this goes. I'm going tk check your legacy out in a bit too! Great writing. X
DeleteHi Rose! Welcome to Blink of an Eye. :)
DeleteHaha, thanks. Martial law is no fun. :(
Thank you for checking this out. :) I hope you enjoy the ride.
Ooooh! This should be interesting. Off I go to get some popcorn ...
ReplyDeleteWhat's going on?! What will the sexy cop do now?!
Hi! Welcome to Blink of an Eye.
DeleteHeehee, to figure out what's going on, keep reading. :)
This story is one where the chapters really build upon each other. XD
This is amazing right from the get-go. Can't wait to see what happens!
ReplyDeleteHi Laney! Welcome to Blink of an Eye. :)
DeleteAww, thanks for your kind words. :) I hope you enjoy the rest of it. XD
I finally had time to start this story! Very intriguing, can't wait to read more.
ReplyDeleteHi! Welcome to Blink of an Eye. :)
DeleteThanks! I hope you enjoy the story.
Wow!!!!! Lovely beginning! :D I love how you started this. Looks like this guy is going to be in a bit of a situation...What a great way to wake up...Having the military search your house.. lol I'm sorry if that didn't make sense but I'm assuming martial law means the military??? o.O Anyways I can't wait to see what happens next I was hoping he would shoot them...Is that bad? I want him to be safe... : )
ReplyDeleteHi. Welcome to Blink of an Eye. :D
DeleteYeah, this guy is not having a good night. :(
Yeah martial law means that military laws are in effect instead of regular law. They do this sometimes when some sort of disaster happens, so that they can fix society and calm chaos.
Haha, no it's not bad that you wanted him to be safe by shooting the soldiers. XD His police training, however, made him not want to do that because it could be viewed as him committing murder.
Thank you for reading and commenting. :)
Since I enjoy 'Echoes' so much I figured I'd go stalk your other stories. ;) I love the start of this so far. So many questions! And it is just so darn interesting, it caught and held my attention right away. Mr. Police man is a hottie. I remember seeing him somewhere.... ;) haha
ReplyDeleteNow excuse me, please, while I go catch up with this. It may take me a few days or a week. lol But I'll get there.
Hi! Good to see you here too. :)
DeleteAww thanks, I am glad you are enjoying it and that you have questions. I wanted to create intrigue and mystery with the story.
LOL, no worries, take as long or as fast as you want. It doesn't matter. :D I've still got a long way to go to finish writing this story, so I'm just glad you've come along for the ride. :)
Matrial law? Oh this is going to be good. I can't wait to read more. Your main character is super hot. .. shirtless, firearm, confidently confronting intruders... sexy.
ReplyDeleteYup, yup martial law! LOL. It was the most realistic way I could think of to portray the "Military restriction" of the apocalypse challenge. XD Thank you, haha, shirtless men with guns, LOL. *drool*
